SimpleTek wasn’t built to chase trends. It was built to fix an imbalance.
In 1985, Mike Dohack began working in telecommunications and quickly noticed something that would define the rest of his career: businesses were at a disadvantage. Telecom providers understood tariffs, pricing structures, and contract language inside and out. Most businesses did not.
The result? Complexity, confusion, and unnecessary expense.
Rather than accept it, Mike did something different. He spent years studying telecom tariffs and rate structures, digging deep into how the industry truly worked. He negotiated one of the nation’s first alternative access agreements. He built long-distance and local exchange companies - not simply to operate them, but to understand the core cost components from the inside out.

In 1989, the foundation of SimpleTek was formed with a simple but powerful mission: help businesses secure the best value for their communication investments through expertise, integrity, and disciplined management. As the industry evolved, adding long-distance competition, CLECs, resellers, mobility, and cloud systems - complexity multiplied. Businesses weren’t just overspending. They lacked clarity.
By the mid-1990s, SimpleTek expanded beyond consulting into operational support, serving as an outsourced telecom department for organizations across the country. But Mike saw something more was needed. The real breakthrough came after more than a decade of development: the creation of SimpleTek’s proprietary Communication Lifecycle Management platform, later branded as Vigilance.
Launched in 2013, Vigilance unified expense management, contract tracking, vendor oversight, inventory management, and mobility into a single, integrated system - paired with expert human oversight. Because software alone isn’t enough.
Throughout this journey, Mike’s leadership has remained grounded in stewardship. SimpleTek operates on principles of integrity, fairness, respect, and service. Doing the right thing has always mattered more than short-term revenue.
One of the areas Mike is most proud of is SimpleTek’s work supporting mission-critical organizations, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
